Computer Power Plan:
In December of 2008, the Library's Technical Services implemented a power plan on all public access computers to ensure that they are operating at maximum efficiency. All public access computers are set to turn off when the library is closed and turn back on in the mornings prior to the library opening. This greatly reduces the library's energy use, and in turn, its carbon footprint.
Print Management:
In October of 2008 the Library introduced a computer and print management system to control its public internet computers. The print management system controls all print jobs sent from the public internet computers to the printer. When a patron requests to send a print job, the number of pages and the price of the print job is displayed. This discourages people from printing more than they actually need. Then all print jobs are stored in a waiting list and manually released. Only when a patron requests their print job from the Information Desk, does the print job get printed. If people neglect their prints, they're not printed. This system has greatly reduced the number of print jobs that were unncessesarily printed and the therefore reduced the amount of waste paper the library produces, and the amount of the toner used.
